How does love start to unravel? What does a healthy connection actually require? And why do so many relationships end up failing?
Sometimes, two people can be madly in love and still completely fail to understand each other, so the very dynamic that felt like a breathtaking blessing in the beginning gradually turns into a suffocating, overwhelming weight. Rather than coming together to discuss the issue as a team, couples fall into a destructive loop, defaulting to sharp words, finger-pointing, emotional coldness and defensive silence.
In my daily practice as a tarot reader and life coach, I see this heartbreak unfold all too often, watching ego quietly triumph over love and care, and my heart goes out to the “over-givers” who are left holding a painful bag of unanswered questions and unhealed wounds because without real closure, they frequently carry those same self-sacrificing habits straight into their next relationship.
Generally, this friction comes down to a classic attachment clash between the anxious over-giver—who is emotionally expressive, deep-feeling, and constantly reaching for connection only to carry the brunt of the anxiety, self-doubt, and heartache—and the avoidant-rationalizer, who is driven by intellect and a fragile ego, retreating into logic, shutting down, or dodging accountability whenever emotional intensity flares and misinterpreting every loving concern raised by their partner as a personal attack.
I recently worked with a client navigating this exact spiral in a relationship where her partner was remarkably attentive and loving at first, but over time every conversation turned into a battleground because both of them were carrying immense personal stress, emotions, and tough situation in their family, while he was overwhelmed by a grueling workload, stress and her trying her best to remain patient and supportive while navigating her own emotional pain. Whenever she reached out for simple updates or reassurance, he felt cornered and pressured, yet when we looked at the cards, the core truth was undeniable: the love was genuine and both deeply wanted to make it work, but they were stuck in a toxic communication loop where he would retreat into days of complete silence assuming time would sweep the issue under the rug, while she needed to talk things through calmly to prevent the problem from happening again, until she eventually went silent too—desperate to preserve her self-respect and stop feeling like she was begging for bare-minimum affection.
The cards pointed out that they needed to sit down together and talk about the real issues without getting offended, listen calmly to each other to solve the issues, and change their own behavior so they would not hurt each other. The girl understood the whole situation and pattern, saying she would control her anxious attachment to her boyfriend, and she talked to him gently; he also realized that when he is under pressure he has no energy to explain himself to his partner or answer her questions, which is where the misunderstanding started. Neither was cheating or lying, but they were unable to deal with the situation and it was making both of them feel unheard and misunderstood.
‘’This insight may resonate with your own life if you are navigating relationship challenges. Private readings and deeper guidance sessions can help you uncover underlying patterns and learn how to resolve them. However, a crucial truth to remember is that many clients arrive hoping to fix their partner’s behavior, thoughts, or make them feel regret—but you cannot change anyone else. You only have control over your own mind, reactions, and emotional boundaries. Approach your partner with empathy to understand their perspective, and if the relationship is truly worth saving, stay and nurture it. Otherwise, prioritize your peace and choose yourself’’
